Rakeen Development presented its first project in Georgia UPTOWN TBILISI in Sheraton Metekhi Palace Hotel on February 21st 2008. While construction is on its first stage in suburb of Tbilisi - Digomi, guests on presentation had chance to gain more information about UPTOWN TBILISI and company’s future plans. Project was officially launched together with Mayor of Tbilisi, Mr. Gigi Ugulava, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Board of Directors of Rakeen, Dr. Khater Massaad and the General Director of Rakeen Georgia Mr, Zaza Mikadze.
"Our aim is not just to sell shops, it is to create a destination. The shopping mall, will be finished by the end of 2009. We will make it very much a luxury shopping mall,” said Dr. Khater Massaad, who came to Georgia especially for UPTOWN TBILISI presentation.
"UPTOWN TBILISI defines itself a destination of global lifestyle and culture and speaks an international language of life, work and leisure that celebrates the place and its views”, Zaza Mikadze said. Among company’s future plans are TBILISI HEIGTS, a residential and commercial space on 180 hectare land in Tabakhmela, five star hotels in the Black Sea coast Batumi and Gonio and Vardzia in Southern Georgia. These entire projects will put an important contribution in development of tourism in the country.
The presentation was attended by a wide spectrum of dignitaries, including officials from two countries, international businessman, investors, financial institutions, leading entrepreneurs, retailers and wholesalers.
The Mayor of Tbilisi made a speech on presentation and spoke about advantages of UPTOWN TBILISI: "We will get a different infrastructure and city is obtaining a new function. The most important is that Investor is not oriented on the center of the city and is ready to invest in the suburb. Rakeen Development’s every project is like a fresh air, new energy and new source of employment for the city,” Mr. Gigi Ugulava said.
